Glasgow Parkrun
I already wrote a little about the Glasgow Parkrun earlier on Dailymile but though I’d do a mini post here too.
First off, for a free weekly 5k event, it’s exceptionally well organised!
The main aim of the morning was to help my good friend through his first 5k; the climax of a 0-5k training plan.
There were 266 Parkrunners in attendance on a mild, dry Saturday morning. By the reaction of the volunteers it appeared to be a good turn out. Clear instructions were given to all runners, new and regulars alike, then we all set off at 9.33am.
The route takes you around 2 laps of Pollock Park interior, an absolutely stunning woodland area. Plenty of marshals were available to direct runners around the path. A good job really as it seemed like an easy place to get lost in.
Despite the undulating terrain we both managed to keep a steady pace throughout. Every so often I’d check my mate was ok, which sounds a bit off but this was the longest distance he had ever run. He did brilliantly. His aim – a sub 30 5k. The finishing time – 29:04. Cracking effort all round that has left a burning curiosity as to how much faster either of us can run it!!
