Cold Feet

As much as I’m really enjoying my move to minimalism, the one thing that’s been playing on my mind is the soon to arrive cold winter months.  Particularly since I’m now a Huaraches wearer.

Bare feet when it’s -3 degrees doesn’t sound like much fun.  But this morning I read a post over at Barefoot and Grounded called Don’t Get Cold Feet About Bare Feet As Cooler Months Approach, which made me feel a little better about stepping out in cooler conditions.

Last week, morning temps were about 5 degrees C in my area (hardly winter I know).  Barefooting was less of an issue than I thought. Both my feet and my little piggies soon warmed up.  This autumn, as the post suggests, should help me acclimatised and during winter, common sense will obviously prevail.  I’ll invest in some toe socks and, if need be, I’ll wear trainers.  (Thanks to Julia for the link to toesocks.co.uk, very helpful!)

Happy running!

Yay Me!

Just noticed that I’ve logged 699.06 miles running in 2010 so far.  My target for the year was 700 miles.  I think, with rounding, I can safely say the distance target has been broken.

Yay!

Wonder if I can hit 1000 by the end of the year…

Neti Pot [Videos]

I used a Neti Pot for the first time last week.  It’s pretty good.  Leaves you feeling really clear.  Doing it though is odd.  It’s a really bizarre feeling.  Almost wrong, but somehow right.

Anyway, rather than bore you with the benefits of using a Neti Pot (of which there are many), I did what any person would do.  I search YouTube for demo videos.  Some funny ones below.

If you’re in the market for a Neti Pot, even after seeing the videos, I got mine at http://www.netipot.co.uk/  give them a look.

2 Surprises in 2 days

I must be paying less attention to things or my expectation gauge is way off.

Yesterday, on my lunch break, i took a trip to a retail park to buy a bulb for my car (rock and roll!). As i walked up to the front door of Halfords i began to slow down and then paused for the door to open. I only paused for a split second, however that split second seemed like an eternity. You see, if the door was automatic all would have been well. But it wasn’t. It had handles and OPEN written in big letters on the glass. Worst part is, i was looking at the door while walking towards it, not on my phone or distract by anything else. Are there so many Automatic doors around that I’m beginning to expect that door will open for me without having to lift a finger?

What a numb nuts.

My 2nd surprise hit me this morning. I was up at 5.30am for my morning run. Looking out the window wasn’t the most motivational thing i could have done but i needed to know to dress appropriately – shorts & T or Man tights & jacket. Anyway, the sky had dark heavy clouds, it was raining slightly and very windy. I chose man tights & jackets. i didn’t want to be cold.

So, i got dressed then stepped out side, closed the door and all i could feel was a warm, almost tropical warm, wind. Shocked i was. This is Scotland I live in. Wet = cold. Needless to say man tights & Jacket was the wrong choice. Sweating was an understatement.

I was genuinely surprised by those two insignificant events. So much so i they stuck in my head. Weird.

Well, if you held on till the end of this post I’ve probably just wasted a couple of minutes of your life that you’re not getting back. Ah well. What would you have been doing otherwise!?

It shouldn’t be funny, but it is.

I nearly wet myself the first time i saw this video. It shouldn’t be funny, you know, to laugh at other peoples misfortunes, etc. It’s just the way the 2nd woman appears on camera running like an old man.

Once you’ve laugh at it a few times though, actually watch it and think about it. These women could have caused themselves serious harm. And no one actually attempted to help them till they got across the finishing line. i know it shows grit and determination, but it’s a bit stupid too.

Anyways, enough moaning about it. If laughter is the best medicine, this is a strong dose!
